Lowell Litter Krewe To Improve Lowell Riverwalk With MillTown Helping Hands Donation
For the October 2022 MillTown Helping Hands donation, Lowell Litter Krewe was honored with a $1,000 donation from MillTown’s Helping Hands. Lowell Litter Krewe was recognized for their thousands of volunteer hours dedicated to beautifying Lowell, Massachusetts. This year alone, they have logged over 2,300 volunteer hours across 69 events. During a meeting with the Lowell Litter Krewe at their monthly board meeting, they shared their plans for MillTown’s donation. While specifics are still being decided, their primary goal is to enhance the Lowell Riverwalk.
About the Lowell Riverwalk
The Lowell Riverwalk is a cherished walking trail running alongside the Merrimack River, reflecting Lowell’s rich industrial history with views of historic mill buildings. This 2.5-mile trail is open year-round and hosts the annual Lowell Riverwalk Festival every Labor Day weekend.
Improving Accessibility
While the Riverwalk trail is relatively easy, with an overall grade of less than 5%, parking and accessibility can be challenging for individuals with disabilities. Lowell Litter Krewe aims to make the trail more accessible, enabling more community members to enjoy its natural beauty.
Enhancing Visibility and Safety
Much of the Lowell Riverwalk runs close to the Merrimack River, away from streets and buildings, leading to dimly lit areas. Insufficient lighting poses safety risks, which is why Lowell Litter Krewe plans to install additional lighting. This will make the trail safer for public use before and after normal work hours in the winter, and at night.
MillTown’s Helping Hands is committed to giving back to the community by supporting deserving local charities. Each month, MillTown Plumbing selects 3-4 nominees from all submissions. Voting occurs throughout the month, and the nominee with the most votes receives a $1,000 donation. Please consider voting for this month’s charities, and nominating a charity you support!
