Steps to Replace a Furnace
MillTown Plumbing’s qualified technicians began by safely disconnecting the gas lines, intake and exhaust flues, electrical connections, and condensate pump before removing the old furnace. The old unit was recycled for its metal content.

Installing the New Furnace
Preparation for the new furnace included modifying the interior intake ductwork for the new filter type and ensuring the intake and exhaust flues met code. The new Rheem furnace required specific adjustments, such as cutting a hole for the intake ductwork and installing feet to keep it off the ground.
Furnace Installation Process
MillTown Plumbing’s technicians placed the new Rheem furnace in its final location. They fastened the new air filter housing and ensured that all ductwork was sealed with foil tape to prevent air leaks.
Furnace Intake & Exhaust
Technicians installed new intake and exhaust flues made from PVC and polypropylene, respectively. Purple primer and PVC cement ensured secure connections on the intake PVC pipes, while clamps and gaskets sealed the exhaust pipes. The flues were labeled to meet code requirements.
Furnace Condensate Pump and Wiring
A MillTown Plumbing licensed electrician rerouted an existing outlet, added a GFCI outlet near the condensate pump, and installed a service switch for the furnace. The plumber installed the plumbing for the condensate pump as part of wrapping up the furnace installation.
Gas Line Installation for the Furnace
The gas line was rerouted for easier installation and servicing of additional components. Thread sealant was applied to the gas line threads to prevent leaks. Excess air was bled from the gas pipe before the furnace was ready for use.
Pepperell Furnace Replacement Done Right
In addition to the furnace installation, MillTown Plumbing offers a new thermostat and carbon monoxide detector. This Pepperell client took advantage of the carbon monoxide detector, installing it near their staircase.
Furnace replacement costs vary based on factors like furnace price, location, and any additional component replacements.
